Coding Foundations
Our Coding Fundamentals Exam assesses your core programming knowledge and problem-solving skills. It covers key topics including variables, data types, control structures, and debugging, while challenging you to design algorithms, build modular programs, and manipulate data structures. The exam also highlights the software development lifecycle, computational thinking, and ethical coding practices.
- Number of questions: 30
- Time limit: 45 minutes
- Passing score: 75%
- Format: Linear and In-App
The examination procedure
- Students can revisit unanswered questions before submitting the test.
- Unanswered questions will be marked as incorrect at the end of the exam.

- Understand and explain core programming concepts, including variables, data types, operators, and control structures. Students should be able to describe how these elements function individually and interact within a program.
- Analyze and predict the behavior of simple code snippets, demonstrating comprehension of loops, conditionals, and function calls. This includes the ability to trace code execution and identify potential outcomes or errors.
- Design and implement basic algorithms to solve problems, such as sorting a list or calculating a factorial. Students should be able to outline the steps of the algorithm and translate them into executable code.
- Write and debug simple programs using a high-level programming language, applying best practices for syntax, structure, and commenting. This involves creating functional code that meets specified requirements and systematically identifying and fixing errors.
- Utilize functions and procedures to create modular code, promoting reusability and organization. Students should understand how to define, call, and pass parameters to functions, as well as the scope of variables.
- Implement basic data structures, such as arrays and lists, to store and manipulate collections of data. This includes performing operations like insertion, deletion, and traversal on these data structures.
- Interpret and apply simple debugging techniques, including reading error messages and using print statements or debugging tools to monitor program execution and identify issues.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the software development lifecycle, including stages such as planning, coding, testing, and maintenance. Students should recognize the importance of each stage and the iterative nature of development.
- Apply principles of computational thinking, such as decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithmic design, to approach and solve problems effectively.
- Recognize and adhere to ethical and legal considerations in coding, including issues related to intellectual property, privacy, and the responsible use of technology.
